CREST = SHIELD = FLAG = JERSEY
Blood In Blood Out aims to give a brief view on particular events in the history of Europe. It will show the relationship between Europe's oldest and later cultures and its current multicultural identity resulted from wars, marriages, treaties and alliances in the past.
The language of heraldry is used in a modern and accessible form to visualise these events. In this way it aims to create a new form for coat of arms.
Alongside the history of Europe, Blood In Blood Out aims to reveal
the system and terminology of heraldry
formed and maintained by the precursors of today's graphic designers: the heralds. Blood In Blood Out serves as a survey of the current
urban models
of heraldry, from street to high culture.
To be able to show the wide range of different heraldic aspects, Blood In Blood Out started its presentation in Cork, Ireland, with the first results containing the simple method of dividing crests in two together with the grid which will be used in later
episodes.
Blood In Blood Out will continue to divide the crests and show the proces of genealogy. It shall result in 'family trees' of certain European kingdoms, empires and united countries. The project evolves into a series of quilted flags. With every episode Blood In Blood Out will provide the basic principles on heraldry in printed matter and links to others sources on heraldry.
