Still going strong in Amsterdam. Klaas Jan Huntelaar is well in his 30s, but his hunger for goals does not seem to stop. He first came to play for AFC Ajax in 2006 after a successful season in the 1st division. Klaas Vaak made a stunning debut in Amsterdam by becoming the topscorer. The only thing missing from his time in Amsterdam, was winning the national championship.
Via Madrid and Milan Huntelaar found his way back to what he loves to do most. The Dutchman amazed the Schalke 04 fans with a track record of 48 goals in 48 games in all competitions. Probably combining his passion for the game with a warm and steady family life was the secret to his success in Gelsenkirchen. As it allowed him to life right across the border, in Holland and in his own home.
Huntelaar had his mind set on at least that one big prize when he transferred back to Amsterdam in 2017. Ajax found his way back as one of the best clubs in Europe and we all enjoyed watching the Champions League again. Huntelaar was scoring goals when he needed to and acted as a true leader and mentor in the second best team Ajax ever had. Not winning the Champions League final still stings a little, but Huntelaar got what he came for by winning the cup final and his first Dutch national championship.
We are happy to have met him at De Toekomst and hope to see him for many games to come. Always on The Hunt.
