BIBO x Favela Street | Baranka
DESCRIPTION
The Baranka goalkeeper jersey is a powerful symbol, bringing together multiple meaningful elements. "Baranka," meaning "rock" in Papiamentu—the native and official language of Curaçao—reflects the strong and steadfast role of the goalkeeper on the field. As the last line of defense, the goalkeeper is the team’s ultimate safeguard, the one who goes above and beyond for their teammates. This symbolism aligns deeply with the values of Favela Street, which serves as a rock for young people—a reliable foundation they can always depend on, no matter the circumstances. Just as a goalkeeper protects their team, Favela Street supports youth in overcoming life’s challenges.
Blood In Blood Out extended this symbolism by incorporating the tattoos of founder Rocky into the jersey’s sleeves. These tattoos, created by tattoo artist Eduard Victor de Leau, are not merely decorative; they tell Rocky’s life story and represent her personal journey.
In addition, they integrated the colors of the pansexual flag into the design. This highlights Rocky’s queer identity and underscores Favela Street’s commitment to inclusion and acceptance of all sexual and gender identities. By uniting these elements, the Baranka jersey embodies the essence of Favela Street: a safe, supportive community for everyone, regardless of their background or identity.
